Why is being a Dementia Friends supporter in the workplace so important?
3 out of 4 Canadians know someone with dementia. Which means that there are people you work with every day who are touched in some way by it.
Chances are, your workplace also interacts daily with customers or clients who have a personal link to dementia.
What it all comes down to is this: dementia impacts the workplace in many ways. It could be the 444 million unpaid hours family caregivers provided in 2011, which represents $11 billion in lost income. Or it could be the daily challenges of someone at work managing the early stages of dementia, or a caregiver juggling work and care.
Enter Dementia Friends – an excellent way for workplaces to better understand dementia and to become positive forces in the lives of those living with it.
You can get involved. You can help spread the word. It starts with contacting us for the tools you need to encourage people in your workplace to become Dementia Friends. Our workplace toolkit includes posters, targeted emails and even ideas on workplace challenges.
You can also become a Dementia Friends Canada Supporter. You’ll set a goal for the number of Dementia Friends you want to have signed up and once you reach that goal we’ll add your organization’s logo to the website and offer you an official Dementia Friends Supporter logo.
We look forward to adding you to our growing list of friends.
